Yes you can buy tickets for a journey 3 to 4 months in advance.
Fares vary with departure days / dates.
There are several search-booking engines in the website referred below.
Compare the results generated by CheapOair, Airfare.com (+/- 1 day option) and Vayama.

You can purchase your tickets 3-4 months in advance. That is not a problem. Where are you flying from first of all and where are you going? You can check the airline websites such as United and Northwest or different travel websites such as http://www.orbitz.com or http://www.kayak.com. If you are flying from a big city such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles or San Francisco, I would recommend that you find an Asian travel agency. They buy seats at a discount and pass those savings onto you.
