Ticket & Accommodation – Agency or by yourself?

Ive just been to Hongkong last week and we plan to go back before the year ends.
Some of my friends suggested Oct or November coz its autumn there by then.
I am planning to get a ticket via cebu pacific now, i havent tried this airline though lots say its safe also.
Is it ok if i get a ticket online, and then as we arrive HK, we will juz look for our hotel there to stay in for 3 days.
or i need to book myself on the hotel so that i will juz get a cab to bring me to my reserved hotel>?
I believe that if you get a travel agency to book you, it will be a bit higher than a separate booking.
Anyone here who has tried booking for a ticket and accommodation separately?
Which is cheaper? Getting an agency to book you in one (hotel & fare) or book for your own hotel & book & buy fare tickets by yourself

Booking ahead is always good.U can google up hotels in which district that u wanna be close to & make ur reservation. But before that best check for the best rates online or call the airlines of ur choice, before u book ur rooms.I tink booking on ur own is always better than “purchasing” a package thing since u already know hongkong already.Agents wud always charge u slightly more for their work.Good Luck!

I am from the Philippines. My sister and her family went to a vacation in Hong Kong Disneyland. All they did was go online (make sure your computer is free of any virus), get their tickets from Cebu Pacific (its is a good airline in the Philippines – new planes and good track record) and booked online their hotel in Disneyland. It was which quite cheap compared to having it go through the travel agency. This is only advisable IF you are quite familiar with the place. It was my sisters 4th time visiting Hong Kong. For those who have not yet travelled especially outside their country, it is advised to get help from travel agencies.

On the question of which is cheaper (booking online or through travel agency), it really depends. I was able to book for bangkok and hongkong via Philippine airlines and got a deal for only $138 plus taxes. Then looked up hotels online (through sites like asiarooms.com) and booked cheap ones as well. Sometimes though, agencies will give you promo rates a month or two before your planned departure. So it depends whether you gamble on waiting for good rates via agencies or buying tickets and booking hotels online now.

cebu pacific is alright. Online ticket purchase is easy, safe, and you can book flights ahead of time. You should have decided to book last week when they had one peso fares. But even then, a round trip ticket will cost you about 150USD with taxes (except travel and airport tax). Booking early increases your chances of getting cheaper seats so its best you decide sooner on a definite date.

Philippine airlines allows online buying and booking as well. Check out their websites occasionally for promos.

On booking hotels, what i find easy to do is searching sites like expedia or travelocity for hotels and read their reviews. If you see one you like and want to dig deeper, you can do a separate search on that hotel which may have its own website and wil probably have cheaper rates. They will be more than happy to book you in advance, with some requiring full payment upon booking though.

What’s good about arranging everything yourself is that you get to see first your options, like the flight times, hotel classes and amenities, etc. The main drawback though is that other details (specifically airport tranfers, other taxes) are missed out, and you just have to be careful not to overlook them.

i suggest you look over hotels at asiarooms.com and compare prices online. try computing if it turns out cheaper booking yourself vs. the travel agents’ package rates. In my experience, booking yourself months ahead a planned trip turns out cheaper, and at least you get to pick the details regarding your trip.

Good luck. Feel free to email me if you need other details.

I have used Cebu Pacific in buying my tickets for Boracay (online via their website) and was able to avail of their Php 99++ promo for domestic flights. You will really get cheaper rates if you grab their promos. Make sure though that all information are correct: names of travel, dates of travel because if you have to change the dates, there are rebooking fees plus the fare difference if the promo is no longer valid.

Cebu Pacific flies to Hong Kong too, so no worries! Their recent promo, Php 1.00++ for both international and domestic flights just ended. Too bad you missed it. Don’t worry though because they always have promos. Just be ready to grab them when they become available as a lot of people use Cebu Pacific now. Their planes are new, and clean. Staff are friendly.

Since you’ve been to Hong Kong, I think it’s fairly safe to assume that you have an idea as to where you want to stay there, making you a savvy traveler. The thing with booking via a travel agency (hong kong packages) you have a limited itinerary and you have less options. It will be cheaper if you get your reservations separately then bundle them yourself.

    Good luck!
